Aurora Borealis Forecast Scotland 2023

The Guardian

Could it be your time to see the Aurora in 2023

Experts say 'Yes' as the UK is likely to see the Northern Lights

Solar activity is set to peak in 2023 and AuroraWatch UK is predicting more sightings of the lights in the UK.

The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, are a natural light display in the sky, caused by the interaction of charged particles from the sun with the Earth's atmosphere, usually seen high latitude regions (around the Arctic and Antarctic). They can be seen in various forms from patches of light to streamers, and in many colors, often shades of red, green, blue, purple, and sometimes orange and yellow.

AuroraWatch UK is a free service offering alerts of when the aurora might be visible from the UK. It is run by scientists in Lancaster University and the British Geological Survey.

The best time to view the Northern Lights in Scotland is during the darker months from October to March when there are more hours of darkness. The sky needs to be clear to see them, if it is cloudy or there is a lot of light pollution it will be difficult to spot them.
