Getting Rid Of Acrylic Nails With Acetone

How to Remove Acrylic Nails with Acetone

Materials You'll Need:

  • Acetone
  • Cotton balls or pads
  • Aluminum foil
  • Nail file
  • Orangewood stick or cuticle pusher
  • Moisturizer
  • Step-by-Step Instructions:

    1. File the Top Coat: Using a nail file, gently file off the top coat of your acrylic nails to roughen them up and allow the acetone to penetrate better.

    2. Soak Nails in Acetone: Saturate cotton balls or pads with acetone and place them on top of each nail.

    3. Wrap with Aluminum Foil: Wrap each nail tightly with aluminum foil to create a seal and help the acetone dissolve the acrylic.

    4. Wait 15-30 Minutes: Allow the acetone to sit for 15-30 minutes, depending on the thickness of your nails.

    5. Gently Remove Acrylic: After 15-30 minutes, use an orangewood stick or cuticle pusher to gently push under the edges of the acrylic and lift it off. Be patient and don't force it.

    6. File and Buff: Once the acrylic is removed, use a nail file to remove any remaining residue and buff your nails to smooth them out.

    7. Moisturize: Apply moisturizer to your cuticles and nails to nourish them after the acetone exposure.

    Tips:

Use 100% Acetone: Lower concentrations of acetone will take longer and may not be as effective.

Be Patient: Removing acrylic nails with acetone can take time, especially if they are thick.

Don't Pull or Dig: Avoid pulling or digging at the acrylic, as this can damage your natural nails.

Do it Safely: Place a towel on your work surface to prevent acetone spills and open a window to ventilate the area. Acetone can be flammable and has a strong odor.
